Victoria College (VC) evaluates student achievement consistent with its comprehensive college mission to provide students opportunities to attain associate degrees and/or certificates, successfully transfer to universities, meet regional and employer demands, prepare students through developmental education for successful transition into college-level studies, and to meet the immediate technical and occupational skills needs of employers and the individual.
Access and retention, skills attainment, student learning outcomes, graduation, transfer and employment, and continuing education and workforce training metrics are defined in the Texas Education Code as performance indicators and are used by Victoria College to evaluate levels of student achievement. Target values associated with the metrics are developed based on local, state, and national level benchmarks. Victoria College faculty and staff also consider the successful mastery performance of student learning outcomes, including general education competencies, to be a critical measure of student success.
Victoria College is classified, by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, with the medium-sized cohort of community colleges in Texas and uses performances of this group as a benchmark at the state level. VC also uses this groups’ performances on measures reported to the National Center for Education Statistics as a benchmark. The State of Texas requires Texas public higher education institutions set targets for key student performance measures in alignment with state targets. Standards established by a cohort of community colleges participating in the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) are used by VC to benchmark with other community colleges at a national level. Student Achievement data includes targets to support Texas 60x30 initiatives and is currently comprised of benchmark metrics. This future-looking document will include additional data points as the plan proceeds.
